IT’S HALLOWEEN WEEK, RE poullouthkia! 🎃👻🦇

This week, Cyprus is feeling spooky. The nights are getting darker, the shadows are getting longer, and somewhere in a village in Lympia, someone’s yiayia is convinced she saw a ghost in the kitchen. Turns out it was just her husband getting up for a glass of water. Probably. 👀

Theia Maroulla would like to remind you that the scariest things in Cyprus aren’t ghosts, witches or vampires. It’s your electricity bill in October, the mysterious plastic tupperware in the fridge that’s been there since 2019, and a relative asking why you’re still single at Sunday lunch. 💀

And let’s not forget the real horror story: going out for ena poto and coming home when the sun is rising, with €87 missing from your account and absolutely no recollection of ordering those extra drinks. Paranormal activity, clearly. 🍷

As for Theia? She’s staying home, locking the doors, checking the windows and hopping for the best. At 75, the only thing she’s chasing this Halloween is a decent night’s sleep. And even that’s proving difficult. 😭

So light a candle, keep your garlic close, and whatever you do, DON’T ANSWER THE DOOR IF SOMEONE SHOUTS “ELA KORI!” AFTER MIDNIGHT. It could be a vampire. Or worse, your cousin who still owes you €50.

Because nothing is scarier than a relative who appears at your door unannounced, knows what you had for lunch, and asks why you haven’t married yet. Forget haunted houses. Try having a coffee with your auntie.

And if you hear strange noises at night, don’t panic. It’s probably a pneuma. Or your neighbour dragging chairs at 2 AM. Or your dad checking if you turned off the lights.

Honestly, the scariest thing in Cyprus isn’t Halloween. It’s the family group chat when someone sends “Hey all, we have something to say. ” 💀
